Privacy Policy for Dapper

Last updated: April 25, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information Dapper collects, how it is used, and your rights regarding that information. By using Dapper, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Overview

Here's the short version of what Dapper does and doesn't do with your data:

What Dapper does:

  • Periodically downloads an updated list of top podcast RSS feeds so you can browse and discover new shows. You can turn this off in settings.
  • Optionally collects your email address if you choose to subscribe to our newsletter. You have to explicitly check a box — we'll never add you without your consent.

What Dapper does not do:

  • No telemetry, crash reporting, or analytics — we never receive data about how you use the app
  • No user accounts or authentication required
  • No advertising or ad-tracking of any kind
  • No tracking of your listening history, playback behavior, or podcast subscriptions
  • No device fingerprinting or behavioral profiling
  • No selling or sharing of your data with third parties

Dapper is a podcast synchronization application for macOS. It allows you to subscribe to podcast RSS feeds, automatically download new episodes, and transfer them to a connected digital audio player (DAP). We do not sell your data.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

RSS Feed URLs
Dapper stores the podcast RSS feed URLs you subscribe to. These are stored locally on your device and are not transmitted to our servers. They are used solely to check for and download new podcast episodes.

Email Address (Optional)
If you contact us using the in-app feedback form and choose to opt in to our newsletter by checking the "Send me your newsletter" checkbox, we will collect and store your email address. Providing your email and opting in to the newsletter is entirely voluntary. If you submit feedback without checking that box, your email address is not retained.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

If the podcast catalog feature is enabled (it is on by default, but can be turned off in settings), Dapper periodically fetches an updated list of top podcast RSS feeds from our server. This request is made automatically in the background. Like any standard web request, our server generates access logs containing a timestamp and a partial IP address. We anonymize IP addresses by truncating the last octet before storage, so the full address is never retained. We do not use this information to identify or track you.

Dapper does not collect analytics, crash reports, telemetry, usage statistics, or any other behavioral data. To prevent the catalog fetch entirely, disable it in settings.

2.3 Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect:

  • Your name, location, or demographic information
  • Financial or payment information
  • Browsing history or behavior
  • Information about your digital audio player or its contents
  • Podcast listening history or preferences

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect only for the following purposes:

  • RSS feed URLs: To periodically check for new podcast episodes and download them to your device. This processing occurs entirely on your machine.
  • Email address (newsletter opt-in only): To send you updates or news about Dapper, if and when a newsletter is published. We will not use your email address for any other purpose.

4. Data Storage and Third-Party Services

If you opt in to the newsletter, your email address is stored securely with Cloudflare, our hosting provider. Cloudflare's privacy policy is available at https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/.

Server access logs generated by the podcast catalog fetch (IP address and timestamp) are stored on Cloudflare infrastructure and are subject to Cloudflare's standard log retention practices. All other Dapper data (RSS feed subscriptions, downloaded podcast files) is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to us or any third party.

We do not use advertising networks, social media tracking, or any third-party analytics services.

5. Data Retention

  • RSS feed URLs and podcast files: Retained locally on your device for as long as you use the app. You can remove them at any time by modifying your subscriptions or uninstalling Dapper.
  • Server access logs (IP address and timestamp): Retained according to Cloudflare's standard log retention practices, typically for a short period for security and operational purposes. We do not export or analyze these logs.
  • Email address (newsletter opt-in): Retained until you request deletion (see Section 7 below).

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information with third parties, except:

  • Cloudflare: As described above, email addresses of newsletter subscribers are stored on Cloudflare infrastructure.
  • Legal compliance: If required by applicable law, court order, or governmental authority, we may disclose information as necessary.

We have no other data-sharing arrangements.

7. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate personal information
  • Delete your personal information
  • Withdraw consent to newsletter communications at any time
  • Object to or restrict certain processing of your data

To exercise any of these rights, or to unsubscribe from the newsletter, contact us at the address in Section 10. We will respond within 30 days.

California residents (CCPA): We do not sell personal information. You have the right to know what personal information we collect and to request deletion.

European residents (GDPR): Our legal basis for processing your email address (when newsletter opt-in is provided) is your explicit consent. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.

8. Children's Privacy

Dapper is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.

9. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect any personal information we hold. Newsletter email addresses stored with Cloudflare are protected by Cloudflare's enterprise-grade security infrastructure. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Contact

For privacy-related questions, requests, or concerns, please use our contact form at www.dappersync.app/contact-us.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. For material changes, we will provide notice within the app or through other reasonable means. Continued use of Dapper after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
